Gaongil: Harvard College Modern Korean Studies Society

Purpose Statement

Gaongil: Modern Undergraduate Korea Studies Society aims to foster a space in which students interested in Modern Korean affairs can freely discuss contemporary South Korean issues in politics, economy, and society. In addition to deepening our understanding of the country\x{e2}\x{80}\x{99}s culture we also attempt to promote awareness of Korean current affairs among the general Harvard community. As the Korean word, \x{e2}\x{80}\x{9c}Gaongil,\x{e2}\x{80}\x{9d} means \x{e2}\x{80}\x{9c}Middle-Path\x{e2}\x{80}\x{9d}, our organization is committed to remaining nonpartisan while encouraging free and unhindered discussion. As such, we the members of Gaongil have gathered ourselves to institute an academic student organization dedicated to three causes: scholarship, solidarity, and outreach.
