Harvard College iGEM

Purpose Statement

As Harvard College iGEM (International Genetically Engineered Machine), we seek to establish a community of creative synthetic biologists from a variety of concentrations and disciplines. We aspire to promote a culture of teamwork and meaningful research spearheaded by undergraduate initiative and innovation in the field of synthetic biology. As members of the Harvard community as well as local Boston and Cambridge communities, we will engage with the public in conversations about the positive and negative potential of synthetic biology applications, dispel common misconceptions, and gain a better understanding of community concerns. We will also engage in community projects with local Boston schools to mentor budding high school iGEM teams in their research and competition. Our work each year will culminate in our participation in the iGEM competition where we will share our projects with an international audience, connect with other teams of synthetic biologists, relevant companies, and organizations.
